A computer program was developed to aid in identifying wheat cultivars by comparing their gliadin electrophoregrams with those of standard varieties stored in the computer memory. The main output of the program is a relative percent similarity plot, which shows the similarity of the electrophoregram of the cultivar in question to that of each of the standard cultivars. In addition, the program lists the names of those cultivars whose electrophoretic patterns are most similar to that of the "unknown," in order of decreasing similarity. The weighting factors used for calculating similarities are listed and explained. Examples of the use of the program for identifying "unknown" cultivars are presented.
