Team "Tropical Pretzels" Win with Their Flavorful Fruit- and Nut-Filled Snack

The Product Development Competition, held during the AACC International Annual Meeting, invited student members to create a new product containing at least one major cereal ingredient. Team "Tropical Pretzels" from Kansas State University took the first place prize of $3,000. Team members Katie Krusemark and Katie Marston created a soft, multigrain pretzel filled with dried pineapple, mango, and walnut with just the "perfect mix of salty and sweet." Their product, Tropical Pretzels, targets on-the-go consumers looking for convenience and exotic flavors while boasting several health food claims. This article highlights the innovation process involved in developing this award-winning concept.
