This perspective examines various food trends to watch for in 2009. The year 2009 will see the state of our world reflected in food trends as well as in the choices consumers make. Reported trends include everything from the rise in "fresh" labeling to purple tomatoes, nuts, and of course, super foods. This article attempts to summarize the reported predictions and patterns for the year ahead using data and research compiled from industry experts, market research groups, foodies, and journalists.
