Equivalence Between Metric and U.S. Units for the Grain Industry

C. W. Wrigley. CSIRO Food and Nutrition Sciences, North Ryde (Sydney), Australia. Cereal Foods World 55(1):32-34.

The grain-trading industry is global, but there is still no universally agreed upon system of weights and measures for the grain industry. The main two means of assessing grain amounts are the metric (SI) and the imperial systems of units. Even for the latter, there are two distinct versions—U.S. and British. This article provides a background to these various systems of units, explaining some of the reasons for their adoption, and tables are provided to assist in converting between the metric and U.S. systems of grain measurement.
