Turmeric (CI Natural Yellow 3, CI No. 75300, EEC No. E 100), also called “curcuma,” is the dried ground rhizomes of several species of Curcuma longa, a perennial herb of the Zingiberaceae family. It is native to northern Asia and is cultivated in China, India, South America, and the East Indies. Annual production is about 165,000 tons.
