Here are some tips to help you do it yourself... easier and better.*
It’s easy to create your own DIY videos at home or at work. Below, we list some details on the keys for success to producing quality organic in-house videos.
Technique
- Film the video in landscape (horizontal) orientation, rather than portrait (vertical).
- Raise your smartphone so that it is at eye level (or slightly above eye level if you can) and frame yourself in the middle of the screen.
- Keep the phone steady in your hand – or you could use a tripod or phone holder, if available.
- Look directly into the phone’s camera lens when speaking. If you are not sure where the lens is located, run your finger around the phone until it blacks out the video (that is where your lens will be located).
Location
- Pay attention to your surroundings – what will be in the background when you’re filming?
- If you’re filming indoors, try and find a room that is well lit. Sit or stand with the light source facing towards you. If the light is coming from behind you (such as an open window), you will be a shadow in the video.
Sound & Content
- Choose a quiet room/location and speak at a normal, conversational volume.
- Plan and rehearse what you want to communicate in your video.
- Review your video before sharing and re-record if necessary.
The key to mastering the selfie video is shooting in horizontal orientation, look into the camera lens, and have good lighting!
