Abstract

The scientific community relies on the foundation laid by past research and moves forward through the sharing of ideas, thoughts, and pushback. Historically, this has been done through articles published in academic journals. What might the future of peer-reviewed scientific publishing look like in the digital age? Blockchain technology offers features that could be used to speed up the publishing process while maintaining the integrity and documentation of the process. Although many potential applications exist, a successful shift in the technology used in scientific publishing will rely on acceptance and active participation by the scientific community.
